We had the distinct
pleasure of staying at Villa Trasimeno for seven days in June &
July, 2009. We were hosted by Carmello (Carmen) and Luana
Oppedisano - "assisted" by their lovely daughter, Aurora (almost
four). Our actual experiences far exceeded anything we expected
- and we expected a lot.
Carmen & Luana attend to every detail. Our room was clean and
very comfortable - and the view was terrific - a terrace
overlooking Lake Trasimeno. Our reception set the tone for our
stay - cocktails & crostini. Every morning we had an incredible
breakfast - once with fresh zucchini bread, once with a
wonderful fig crostada, once with a tray of local salume &
cheeses, and once with a wonderful frtittata. Carmen made sure
we knew how to get to anyplace we wanted to visit - and he
provided us with great tips about places we didn't really know
about.
As a bonus, we dined at the Villa twice. We had as good as - or
better - food there as we did in all of Italy during our 16 day
vacation. One could eat there every night and every night say -
"That was the best meal I can remember."
When we left to continue our vacation, my wife & I were actually
sad to be leaving. We felt more like family friends, than inn
guests. Carmen, Luana, & Aurora made us feel right at home. We
enjoyed our stay beyond what I can describe with words.
If you are anywhere near Tuscany or Umbria, I would strongly
suggest that you check out Villa Trasimeno. It might lead to
your perfect Italian vacation.
